No comment apart from 'Have i beaten Ernest'?lol, will come back later when i can say something constructive.

Is that the old Orrell Rugby Union ground, now the Cooperative Stadium left centre?

Comment by: alan on 10th May 2012 at 00:19

From where exactly.....towards where ? I don't recognise any of it.

Comment by: John on 10th May 2012 at 08:22

Jamie, have you put a tilt/shift effect on this?
Alan-from centre left, top of Galleries,Boyswell House in red, Parish Church and Coops building centre of pic, Scholes flats in blue/white, middle right in trees, Trencherfield Mill tower.

Roy, I was sound asleep at 00:08 !!
Ken R is usually the first to comment. What`s the Coop Stadium Roy?
Jamie, What`s the tallest building towards the top left?

Comment by: Jamie on 10th May 2012 at 08:48

Yes there is a tilt shift effect on it. I believe the glass roof centre left is the top of the galleries shopping mall. The rugby posts are not from orrell I believe they are at the new Abraham guest high school.

Hi Ernest, the Coop Stadium is Wigan RLFCs training ground in Edge Hall Road Orrell where Orrell RUFC used to play. Jamie, you may be correct but there appears to be a stand on each side of the pitch which i,m sure Abby Guest wont have. Again i stand to be corrected.

Comment by: Duncan on 10th May 2012 at 10:11

could have been taken from College Road or Dingle Road area in UpHolland, looks like the back of houses on Gathurst Road in the foreground and St Peter's School Orrell Post to the right.

Comment by: Roy on 10th May 2012 at 11:49

Give us a clue Jamie, where in Upholland was it taken from?

Comment by: Jamie on 10th May 2012 at 12:20

My Back Garden ;-)

Near to Alma Hill....

Comment by: Jamie on 10th May 2012 at 12:59

Just looking on Bing maps, the posts may well be at the new Central Park Wigan academy site on Montrose Avenue.

Comment by: Roy on 10th May 2012 at 14:51

Dont know that one Jamie, thanks.

Comment by: alan on 10th May 2012 at 16:21

Thanks Jamie. Very interesting photo, acting a bit like a puzzle game. I left Orrell in 1973 so there have been lots of changes. It is now 8.20am where I now live, can anyone hazard a quess where ?

Comment by: Ken R on 10th May 2012 at 17:25

Sorry Ernest Pyke, I did look at the photo but decided not to comment, I could recognise some places but I could not fit all of them together, if you know what I mean. Ken

I think we'll all have to come round to your house Jamie.....I am totally confused.

Comment by: Tom Walsh on 10th May 2012 at 20:13

How can anyone live in Wigan and not recognise the scene? It's so obvious where it was taken from.

Comment by: tricia on 10th May 2012 at 20:29

Alan
West coast U.S.A ?? Las Vegas???? California???

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 10th May 2012 at 22:17

Yes Jamie, the top of the Atrium at the Galleries is clearly seen also the dome on top of the Queen`s Hall. Am mystified at the size of the building behind the dome.

Comment by: alan on 10th May 2012 at 23:22

Tricia
Thanks for trying....I'm a little further north....Vancouver Island on Canada'a Pacific coast....;.same time zone as California, so you were in the right neck-of-the-woods.

Comment by: Ellen on 10th May 2012 at 23:24

Alan...Vancouver?

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 11th May 2012 at 09:24

Hi alan, I sailed on the ferry, with a mini home rented in Calgary, from North Vancouver to Nanaimo in 1973. It was 5 dollars Canadian - 2 English pounds - for the mini home and one dollar for each passenger !! What are the fares now?

Comment by: Duncan on 11th May 2012 at 10:08

I was nearly right guessing Dingle Road for your viewpoint Jamie, Alma Hill is not far away, virtually the same view.

Comment by: alan on 11th May 2012 at 15:26

Hi Ernest.
It's a lot more expensive now....$14.25 for a passenger, and $49.25 for a motorhome up to 20 foot length and $5.60 per foot over 20. How did you enjoy Vancouver Island ? For me it's the closest place to heaven on earth.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 11th May 2012 at 17:09

Thanks alan, todays tourist rate of exchange is 1.5647 Canadian dollars to the English pound, which is one dollar less than 1973 ! You could be in England with the climate, cricket and tea on Vancouver Island. Butchart Gardens were beautiful.

Comment by: jamie on 20th May 2012 at 11:47

Just checked through my telescope and the posts to the left are not rugby posts. they are on the roof of the Robin Park Complex.!
