Trainers (look up)
Trainers (look up)   by Brian  (iPhone 4)
Taken quite a while ago from Spring Gardens off Frog Lane, Wigan (opp. Deanery High School). Gave me a chuckle, a pair of trainers wrapped around the telegraph wire - I drove past yesterday and they're still there. Memories of the 80s when you also saw bicycle tyres thrown over lamp posts etc.

Who was tightrope walking???

Comment by Mick on 2nd March 2012 at 06:22
Theres a tree in the skate park next to Southport pier in thats covered in trainers.

I wonder what them three people are up to.

Comment by mike on 2nd March 2012 at 08:45
is that the pear tree pub on the lhs? those trainers would not be there here in nz someone would now be wearing them.

Comment by Dave Marsh on 2nd March 2012 at 09:02
This is one of the few central areas that escaped demolition and always reminds me of the old Wigan.

When pair of trainers were tied to a telephone wire in our park here in Bath, we were told that that is a sign that that area is for the sole use of a particular drug dealer - marking his "property". They were removed.

No Mike, the Pear Tree is on the right hand side, on the left was an Indian Takeaway when I lived in the area, dont know what it is now.

Comment by rebian on 2nd March 2012 at 13:57
That building on the left used to be a chippy years ago, if you look closely there is a lintel on the corner this used to be the door into the chippy, it's now a takeaway I think, where the people are on the right used to be where they delivered the barrels of beer into the cellar.

Comment by Derek Platt on 2nd March 2012 at 16:49
Likewise Maggie, I live in Canada and the same applies to my area where I live. It means drug dealers are there.

Comment by linda massa on 2nd March 2012 at 17:21
Maggie and derek are right, it's a sign of our times, drugs are available there.

Comment by Dave (Oy) on 2nd March 2012 at 23:39
An urban myth. Don't you think if this "secret sign" were so widely used and know then it wouldn't be very secret? Maybe the Police would also know what it meant?

Comment by Kayleigh on 3rd March 2012 at 17:03
well that figures quite a few on Millers Lane Platt Bridge

Comment by jamie on 3rd March 2012 at 23:14

Whoever named this "Spring gardens" had a sence of humer.I had to walk down there every morning to school, past Santus and the smell of boiling mint balls.Never saw one flower or a blade of grass.

Comment by josie on 4th March 2012 at 22:22
a pair or pairs of trainers as far as i am told is a sighn to druggies of a dealer there ? just looks a mess to me.

Comment by Josh on 8th March 2012 at 18:57
I'm afraid I have to agree, here in the Midlands the same "signature" of trainers hanging on wires, indicates an area or place where drug dealing takes place.
