People in town dressed like that 50 years ago would have been gawped at,life is funny.

Comment by Mick on 3rd May 2011 at 09:14
People would have though there washing machine had shrunk all there clothes.

Comment by Ron D on 3rd May 2011 at 09:22
Not a flat cap or trilby in sight.
Whats the council coming to ?.

Comment by tricia on 3rd May 2011 at 09:31
Is that Paddy from Emmerdale????
Wonder if people these days ever look in a mirror?

Comment by Gareth on 3rd May 2011 at 10:08
If they were to look in a mirror it would probably be one of those from an amusement park that makes everything look odd. That way they would look normal.

Comment by Vic on 3rd May 2011 at 10:28
Everyone is entitled to dress the way they want to.These people dont even know they are being photographed and then put on a website.Im sure all you slagging them off are dressed impeccably hiding behind your nasty comments.I love this website and photos of old Wigan but taking photos of people in this way is just wrong.

Comment by tricia on 3rd May 2011 at 13:07
Vic
No one is slagging them off..mine was a remark in general...
People are allowed to comment on here, that is what this site is all about and like you, everyone is allowed their own opinion.
As a matter of fact YES I am nicely dressed at the moment, so do not be so unpleasant in future. THAT is what spoils this website, not people making innocent remarks.

Comment by Fred Cunliffe on 3rd May 2011 at 14:47
Like Vic's comment, what is nicely dressed?been to Africa lately?

Comment by tricia on 3rd May 2011 at 15:39
Fred

...and your point is what exactly ???

Comment by John on 3rd May 2011 at 16:08
I can't see anyony "Slagging" people off but you Vic, yes it is up to people how they dress, and it must be said most people to day have no dress sence at all. I never when to the pub or club on Friday and Saturday nights wearing jeans and trainers etc etc, People have every right to comment on this site. So I think an apology to Tricia is in order.

Comment by Vic on 3rd May 2011 at 17:05
Tricia, if you bother to look at your first remark you will see it is YOU that is being unpleasant, if that is an innocent remark i would hate to see what one of your nasty ones would be.

Comment by Mick on 3rd May 2011 at 17:14
Vic do you not agree with people taking photos of sporting event as well?

I personally take photos of anything thats in front of me, if they dont want to be taken they can hide.

Comment by John on 3rd May 2011 at 20:11
Tricia meant people in general and not to a pacific individual. most people on this site would understand her comments.

Comment by tricia on 3rd May 2011 at 20:22
Thank you for your support , John.
Some people could pick a fight in an empty room.

A lot of people who used to post on here now do not bother... because of all the aggro.

Comment by sh on 3rd May 2011 at 21:30
I think all of the negative comments about the present day and harping on about how everything was so much better is the past is incredibly tiresome.

Comment by Gerald Pilkington Canada on 3rd May 2011 at 22:53
Play nice Wigan folk

Comment by John on 4th May 2011 at 03:50
Firstly, sorry about the spelling mistakes, I was a bit tired.

Sh..you're comments are negative and boring, who is talking about the past?? I dress in order to suit the occasion and its certainly not jeans and t-shirt etc.
Vic said people are entitled to dress the way they want to, yes it is up to them, but come on, some of us do have standards of quality and for me thats how people are measured.
So Vic and Sh...I suggest you consider you're comments before posting them and maybe we can all start again.

Comment by David on 4th May 2011 at 10:20
I wonder if the people in the photographs are aware of the disparaging remarks.I thing it's wrong to publish on the web without - at least - their consent.

Comment by John on 4th May 2011 at 11:43
Get real David, people always look photogenic when they are caught unaware or without knowing. Most of these people will be pleased their on Photo-a-Day, so please stop being a dull repetitious person.

Comment by David on 4th May 2011 at 13:06
You display the arrogance of ignorance.

Comment by sh on 4th May 2011 at 13:42
John you ought to consider your spelling prior to posting - "Pacific" - ironic really as you are obviously anything but. Grammar as well - should be "they're on photo a day". Dull and repetitious definitely better than stupid.

Comment by John on 4th May 2011 at 15:57
That's it I've finished with you lot.

Comment by tricia on 4th May 2011 at 17:28
Me too, John. They need to get out more. Ignore them . They are not worth it.Nothing so bad as educated ignorance and could argue with the English teacher but I have better things to do with my time. If you cannot say something nice.......

Comment by zoe on 4th May 2011 at 20:46
i agree with vic. these pics are being put on here without peoples concent and are being called for the way they dress, people can dress how they like weather its in the park, in the pub or in the garden.. really shouldnt matter to anyone else as its doing them no harm is it? the ones who are arrogant and ignorant are the ones who sit there sniggering and name calling just cos they dont like the way someone is or dresses, as if the way they dress is the "right" way!!. anyway good pic, i like the people about town ones.. always look to see if i can spot someone i know :)

Comment by Pete on 4th May 2011 at 21:57
Actually Tricia I think uneducated ignorance is much worse.

Comment by Pet on 5th May 2011 at 07:37
Tricia can trace her family back to 1700s.......

Comment by tricia on 5th May 2011 at 09:36
..yes, in Wigan too. I wish someone had taken THEIR photos and recorded them.

John
Do not be put off posting on here because of a few pompous, mean spirited people

Comment by jack on 5th May 2011 at 14:36
Another one with poor grammar it should be THEY'RE and not their...tricia!

Comment by tricia on 5th May 2011 at 15:29
Sorry, Jack, to disagree but their (ie belonging to them, is correct... they're = they are !!!!)
Go stand in the corner , Jack lolol.

Comment by John on 5th May 2011 at 19:28
Obviously Jack didn't go to school in our era Tricia were people learned and got proper educations.

Comment by Jean F (Wales) on 5th May 2011 at 22:34
How can anyone follow all these comments? ( Perhaps better not too !!

Comment by John on 6th May 2011 at 14:40
Don't know who the joker is that's posted comments at 19:28, it's certanly not this John. who are you, and why?

Comment by Fred on 4th June 2011 at 14:26
Well this is the first time on here for me. I came to get way from the augments on the "General" section, and find it just as bad.
How people dress is a personal thing, so what's the problem? As long as no one tells me how to, then I won't comment one their dress, what I saw was a good picture of a day in Wigan.

Comment by Janice on 14th June 2011 at 13:09
Only just become a member of this site so sorry for the delayed comment. Great pictures of people going about their everyday life - and what valuable archival material they will be in years to come. Would we have known about dress of yesteryear without the photos?
