what a great shot,don't think i've
seen this bird before.

Comment by Matt on 31st March 2011 at 08:44
very nice shot, a shame that the point of focus was just below it tho

Comment by dave marsh on 31st March 2011 at 08:52
I think it's important to focus on the animals eye.

Comment by Rev David Long on 31st March 2011 at 08:53
It moved! A couple of these are regular visitors to the front garden - this pic was taken on a rare sighting in the back garden.

Comment by dot on 31st March 2011 at 09:24
I have never seen one of these apart from the bird books. Well done for catching it though.

Comment by D BAILEY on 31st March 2011 at 09:54
Quick tip ... focus on the eye..

Comment by Matt on 31st March 2011 at 11:09
I didn't mean to cause offence Rev, i know how hard it is to catch little birds in such a close focus.

Comment by Mick on 31st March 2011 at 11:39
Focus is not important on Photo of the Day.

After all its not a competition is it.

Comment by Rev David Long on 31st March 2011 at 13:59
No offence taken - I'm grateful for the tips.

Comment by Cloie on 31st March 2011 at 17:49
I love this photo! Thanks for sharing ...

On the focus issue - there were two of these birds around the house - I took a dozen pics of the other one, an immature male. In each one its tail was wagging up and down at ten to the dozen, ruining the shots.

Comment by John on 1st April 2011 at 09:34
Spot on Rev, these birds don't keep still, very difficult to take a clear shot. I think it's great and thanks.

Comment by Bob on 1st April 2011 at 12:27
Rev I'll think you'll find it's a magpie, which do look the same.

Comment by Steve on 1st April 2011 at 22:01
I often see pied wagtails on car parks looking for food. Magpies are a much bigger bird of the crow family.

Comment by Bob on 2nd April 2011 at 08:13
Steve..It was supposed to have been an April fools day for the Rev, but he didn't bit, but you did....
APRIL FOOL Steve.

Comment by Steve on 2nd April 2011 at 20:29
Touche Bob I note your comment was made at 12:27 to qualify it should have been made before noon on April 1st after then the fooler becomes the fool!

Comment by John on 2nd April 2011 at 22:27
Steve...you've bitten, shame on you.
