Stone Circle

Stone Circle
This is what is left that once was the Dog Kennels at Haigh Hall farm, in Haigh Hall plantations.

Nearby used to be a laundry and a row of cottages so I'm told.

I have seen that many times, I have a friend that spent weeks trying to find out what that was. And we were told there used to be a laundry and a row of cottages nearby.

Theres a link here for the Past Forward magazine ,theres a photo taken in 1968 on page 38 gives you a better idea how it was constructed.

Looks like something round to me

Why would they build round shaped dog kennels.

You would thick square ones would have been cheaper to build

I think I must have seen this but can't remember ever going there.
This is the image I had in my head when I read Stephen Kings 'Pet Cemetery'
Where in the Plantations is it, please?

I thought it bit strange to Mick ,they used to keep greyhounds or hunting dogs i believe.
Trica you can find it by going through the gates at the Mowpin Lodge entrance on New Road ,turn left follow the path about 300 yards theres a stone post on your right ,go in there follow the path about 50yards there it is,you can also see the out line of other old buildings.

Thank you David. I came across this in 2002 and was fascinated to know what it was. Even asked a couple of elderly chaps in the Coalier Arm, with no luck. Found it in Past Forward. I called it Wiganhenge
