|Attempted abduction of 9yr old boy
Police in Wigan are warning parents to be extra vigilant after the attempted abduction of a 9 year old boy in Hindley Green yesterday morning, Wednesday 8 June 2005.
At 8.55am the boy was walking along Ludlow Avenue towards Sacred Heart School, when a car, described as a black Ford Mondeo, pulled up beside him.
The man in the car showed the boy a hand held games console and asked him to get into the car.
The boy refused and ran off towards the school where he informed his teachers and they contacted the police.
He was not harmed but was left shaken by the ordeal.
The man is described as white, approximately 30 years old, with brown curly hair and a moustache. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black trousers.
Area Inspector Jeff CRANK, from Hindley police station, said: "This boy's reactions were exactly right in this situation, as he immediately ran away from the man and told an adult what had happened."
"I would advise parents of other children living in the area to talk to their children and offer them advice on what to do if a stranger approaches them."
Anyone who may have seen a car matching this description in the area around that time, or anyone with any further information, should contact Bamfurlong police station on 0161 856 7436 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
