Monday 9th May, 2005

Detectives in Wigan are appealing for information after a 19-year-old man was attacked as he made his way home in the early hours of Saturday morning, 7 May 2005.

The man had been walking along Ormskirk Road, Newtown towards Pemberton at around 2.55am when he saw two men in their late teens heading towards him. In an effort to avoid a potential confrontation the man crossed to the other side of the road.

As he was crossing he tripped and fell, injuring his arm and the back of his head. One of the men the approached and helped him to his feet and asked if he all right.

Without warning the other man punched him in the face. The victim ran to a nearby house but before the occupants could answer the door the two men continued the assault and stole his wallet.

The occupants of the house called an ambulance for him and he was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary. He was treated for injuries to his arm, head and body.

Both of the offenders were white men in the late teens. One of them was further described as being of medium build, approx 5ft 10in tall with blonde medium length hair.
