Police continue to crack down on youth nuisance
Friday 6th May, 2005

This weekend, a mobile police unit will again be located near to Scholes Precinct as police officers continue to work closely with the local community to crack down on youth nuisance.

Additional police officers will be on patrol in this area to provide a high-profile presence to help reassure people and disrupt criminal activity.

Local residents are invited to speak to police officers about any concerns, particularly those relating to youth nuisance or anti-social behaviour.

This is part of an ongoing operation and to date the mobile police unit has visited various locations in the Wigan area including Scholes, Aspull, Swinley and Shevington.

Sergeant Ian Whistlecroft of the Wigan Township Policing Team said: "We will not tolerate young people causing trouble and making people's lives a misery. We want to reassure the public that the police and Wigan Council are committed to tackling the problem. In addition to putting more officers on patrol, we are also liaising with local residents to set up activities that will help to prevent young people from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour or criminal activity."

"This operation will continue for a number of weeks and the mobile police unit will be staffed throughout. We would like to encourage residents who want to discuss any of their concerns to come and see us."
