Appeal for information about a potential computer scam
Tuesday 3rd May, 2005

Detectives investigating a potential scam, which could leave victims hundreds of pounds out of pocket are appealing for witnesses.

Officers have received reports that several people have been approached by men offering to sell them a laptop computer.

Shortly before 2.25pm on Tuesday 19th April 2005, two men were sat in a car which was parked on a car park on Frith Street in Wigan.

They stopped a number of passers by offering a computer for sale. It's believed that this incident may have been linked to an earlier robbery where a man was approached in Wigan Town Centre on Saturday 16th April and offered a similar product.

When he handed over the money two men then threatened him before taking the money and not handing over the laptop.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who was in the area around Frith Street on Tuesday 19th April and may have been offered a computer. Anyone with any information can contact the CID at Wigan on 0161 856 7265 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
