|Wigan Council Statement: Scholes Precinct Assault
Wigan Council is assisting police in their investigations into Saturdayís vicious attack on Mi Gao Huang Chen, the manager of a Scholes takeaway.
Authorities in Wigan were already aware of problems with anti-social behaviour in the area, with the Police increasing patrols and deploying Community Support Officers (PCSOs). The action was part of a multi-agency response involving local councillors, council officers and Wigan & Leigh Housing, with support from the local community.
Wigan Councilís role included:
- prompt processing of all anti-social behaviour data received from police and community support officers;
- making use of the Township Community Safety framework;
- visiting local off-licences to address underage alcohol sales; and
- encouraging close liaison between the Police, local community and the various public agencies.
Wigan Council is grateful to the local community for itís support and positive feedback, in which the efforts of our staff have been commended. We are continuing to support the local community and the Police.
The council condemns this appalling attack and will fully support police efforts to bring justice to those who carried out this disgraceful crime.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with Mr Mi Gao Huang Chen and his relatives.
