Police investigate two attempted burglaries at shops in Wigan
Wednesday 13th April, 2005

Officers in Wigan are investigating two attempted burglaries at different shops in the early hours of Wednesday 13 April 2005.

At approximately 1.50am a red saloon car was seen to drive onto the forecourt of Tesco Express on Bolton Road in Ashton in Makerfield. The driver stayed in the car while two other men, wearing dark clothing got out.

They were able to force the shutters on the front door and get inside the shop. Once inside, the alarm was activated and the men were unable to steal anything before making their escape in the red car in the direction of Ashton.

Approximately 30 minutes later a similar burglary was attempted at the Co-Op Chemist on Orrell Road in Wigan. Officers were called at 2.45am and it is believed the same offenders drove up outside the shop and smashed the glass in the bottom part of the front door. They were able to get inside the shop but it is not yet known what was stolen. The offenders drove away along Gathurst Road.

Investigations are ongoing.
