Appeal following attempt armed robbery at Threshers - Wigan
Tuesday 14th March, 2006

Detectives in Swinley are appealing for information about an attempted armed robbery at Threshers on Sunday 12 March 2006.

At around 9.40pm a man walked into the off licence on Mesnes Road brandishing an eight-inch long knife. The man, who had his face partially covered with a scarf, threatened two women working in the shop. He told them to open the till and demanded cash. The employees activated the panic alarm and ran into a back office. The offender then made off empty handed.

The two women, aged 43 and 20-years-old, were not injured but were left shaken by the robbery.

The offender is described as being white, aged between 20 and 30-years-old, approximately 5ft 8ins to 5ft 11ins tall and of medium build. His face was partially covered with a white scarf and he was wearing a blue hooded jacket with the hood up and a cap underneath. He was wearing dark coloured trousers or tracksuit bottoms and dark coloured shoes or boots.

Anyone who has any information about the robbery is asked to contact detectives at Leigh CID on 0161 856 7257 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
