Appeal following two assaults - Hindley
Tuesday 14th March, 2006

Detectives in Wigan are appealing for witnesses following two assaults in Hindley on Friday 10 March 2006.

The first incident happened shortly after 11.30pm at a bus stop on Atherton Road in Hindley. The 18 year old victim was waiting at a bus stop with his girlfriend when he was approached by four men.

They launched an unprovoked attack on him, punching and kicking him to the ground and causing swelling and bruising to his face and ribs. The man was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Three of the attackers were described as wearing blue tracksuits and one was wearing a white top. Some of them were wearing baseball caps and one had a beard.

A short time later, at around 11.50pm, police were called to Wenlock Street in Hidley following reports that a 19 year old man had been found unconscious on the street.

He suffered head and facial injuries and was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary. He later suffered bleeding to the brain and was transferred to Hope Hospital for further treatment. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either of the attacks, or who may have any information on the people responsible, to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7248 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
