Mayor of Wigan Cllr Brian Jarvis is backing Wigan Athletic to pull off a stunning first ever major cup final success in Cardiff this weekend.
Cllr Jarvis and his chaplain Rev Arthur Cunningham will be cheering on the Latics at the Carling Cup final in the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.
And in preparation this week the Mayor joined staff and councillors for a photo on the town hall steps decked out in blue and white.
Afterwards he said: "On behalf of the council as a whole I offer my wholehearted support to Wigan Athletic. After their performances this season no-one can say they haven't got a great chance of a famous victory.
"But whatever happens this weekend they can hold their heads up high. They have really put the borough on the map and the amount of worldwide media interest is phenomenal.
"Dave Whelan, Paul Jewell and the rest of the team have done us proud.
"It doesn't matter if you're a fan of football, rugby league or rugby union - this is about Wigan and pride in the town, and I hope everyone will get behind the lads on Sunday."
