Haigh Flavoured Ice-cream launched
Tuesday 14th February, 2006

Visitors to Haigh Hall's newly refurbished 'Stables Tea Rooms' will be able to take away a taste of Haigh from Wednesday onwards following the launch of Haigh Hall's own ice cream. To mark the official opening of the Stables Tea Rooms, Haigh are launching the ice cream based on the flavours of the exotic fruits once grown in Haigh's famed tropical greenhouses.

The Mayor of Wigan, together with regular Haigh visitors have been invited to attend the opening of the Stables Tea Rooms, following a significant investment by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. The new Tea Rooms, formerly known as the Haigh Café, has been transformed into a more warm and refreshing environment to grab a snack, with everything from pies to paninis will be on offer.

"We've invested in new state of the art kitchen equipment and food display units, new furniture and a completely new décor making the Tea Rooms a more pleasant environment to enjoy a light meal or snack and relax," says Gary Povall, Haigh's Catering Manager. "We've also completely revamped the menu to offer a wider range of food to suit every palette. We will be serving everything from wraps to Danish pastries and are now offering exclusive picnic boxes and of course the brand new Haigh Hall flavour ice cream."

The new ice cream produced locally by ice cream specialists Dowson's, is completely organic and contains no additives. The idea of the ice cream came about through Gary's appreciation of Haigh's history.

"The flavour of the ice cream is a mix of peach and lime with a sprinkling of apricot. All of these fruits would have been grown in the gardens of Haigh at one time. In fact, Haigh's greenhouses are said to have produced the first pineapple ever grown in England," continues Gary. "The continued improvements of our catering facilities at Haigh are a sign of our commitment to make Haigh one of the best places in the North West to relax, escape, eat and most of all have fun."

Haigh Hall ice cream will be served for the first time ever, on Wednesday 15th February as part of the launch of the new Stables Tea Rooms. For further information on any aspect of Haigh's catering facilities contact Gary Povall on 01942 832895 or visit www.haighhall.net.
