Appeal after man slashed by knife - Hindley
Thursday 19th January, 2006

Detectives in Leigh are appealing for information after a man needed 22 stitches after being slashed across the face with a knife.

The incident happened between 10pm and 10.30pm on Sunday 16 January.

A 33-year-old man came out of his home on Wigan Road, Hindley and confronted three men who appeared to be trying to break into his Ford Mondeo car.

One of the offenders swore at the 33-year-old, who then pushed the man backwards. The offender then lashed out with what is believed to have been a Stanley knife blade.

The man suffered a large deep cut to the left side of his face. He required 22 stitches at the Royal Bolton Hospital and is now back at home recovering. However, it is believed the injury will leave a lasting scar.

A rear window and a wing mirror on the car were damaged.

The man with the knife is described as between 18 and 22 years old, approximately 6ft tall, of heavy build with dark eyes. He was wearing a baseball cap and a hooded top, with the hood over his cap, and dark tracksuit bottoms.

The other two men are described as being between 18 and 22 years old and were also wearing hooded tops and baseball caps.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact CID at Leigh on 0161 856 7770 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
