Attempted armed robbery
Saturday 31st December, 2005

Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Billinge, Wigan, on Thursday 29 December 2005.

At approximately 5.30pm three masked men burst into Longshaw Post Office on Upholland Road, one armed with a knife. Two of the men approached the counter while a third waited at the door.

The armed man began to shout at staff members and started to kick at the security door, which subsequently shattered. The men failed to gain entry and made off, empty-handed, in a silver Toyota Landcruiser.

The Landcruiser was later found abandoned and on fire at the bottom on Longshaw Common. Four men, seen running from the Landcruiser, are believed to have got into a dark coloured car, similar in style to a Ford Mondeo.

The Landcruiser was later found to have been stolen from an address in Liverpool on 17 December 2005.

Anyone with any information about the incident in asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7248 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
