Armed robbery at petrol station
Thursday 8th December, 2005

At approximately 6pm on Wednesday 7 December 2005, police in Wigan received reports of an armed robbery at a petrol station at Morrisons on Makerfield Way in Higher Ince.

It is believed that two men went into the petrol station and attacked a security guard who was making a delivery. One of the offenders is thought to have been carrying a knife.

The men stole a cash box and tried to open it by ramming it with a silver Landrover. They failed to do this and then ran away, leaving the cash box at the scene.

No-one was injured during the incident but two members of staff were left shaken.

Enquiries are continuing. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact CID at Leigh on 0161 856 5308 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
