Wednesday 30th November, 2005

At approximately 12.30am this morning, Wednesday 30 November 2005, officers in Wigan responded to reports that the driver of a car had been thrown from his vehicle following a collision.

The 21-year-old man had been driving his green Ford Fiesta, registration W587HRM, along Frog Lane towards Wigan town centre. As he drove round a left hand bend the car went into the opposite lane and collided with the kerb, before colliding with a wall and railings.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary where he is continuing to receive treatment.

A section of the road was closed for approximately four hours before being re-opened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit at Leigh on 0161 856 7273/4. Alternatively information can be passed via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
