Move over Dylan – Wigan is Bringing it all Back Home
Tuesday 8th November, 2005

Wiganers are to be given the perfect platform to prove they are the next Bob Dylan, Eva Cassidy or Katie Melua. Ince Public Hall is hosting a series of ‘open mic’ nights over the coming months thanks to Ormskirk based entertainment agency Abacus Music.

In association with Wigan Leisure Culture Trust, the agency is organising the nights to encourage local musicians to showcase their talent in a relaxed environment. Entertainers and musicians of all ages are urged to come along to the Leisure Venue on Ince Green Lane, to take part in what promises to be a fantastic evening of live music. Experienced performers and novices alike are invited to perform their latest songs in front of an appreciative audience.

“The aim is to offer budding musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a willing crowd. Those that are stage shy needn’t worry as support will be given to all and listeners are especially welcome,” says Abacus Music Spokesperson Jill Fielding. “Ince Public Hall provides the perfect venue for an event of this type, so if a drink and a sing along is what you’re after come along and sample some of Wigan’s finest entertainment”.

The music scene in Wigan Borough is going from strength to strength, however the Trust has recognised that there is a huge gap for performers who may not be in the position to start their own full-time band, but still want to express themselves in front of a live audience.

Brian Yates, the Trust’s Leisure Venues Manager says, “There are a lot of talented musicians in Wigan and Leigh and we want to encourage people to come forward and perform their skills in front of a live audience. There aren’t enough venues in Wigan and the surrounding areas that encourage young and old alike to pick up their guitars and express themselves – we hope this is a step in the right direction.”

The next event is being held on 26th November 2005, Doors open at 8.00pm and entry is £2.00. A full P.A. rig and proficient operator will be on hand to assist all musicians. If you would like any further information regarding event dates please call Jill Fielding on 01695 424209 / 07712892999. Please note this event is not a karaoke evening.
