Man falls from roof
Monday 7th November, 2005

At approximately 5.10pm on Sunday 6 November 2005 officers in Ashton-in-Makerfield where alerted by paramedics to a man who had fallen from the roof of a school.

The 18-year-old had fallen approximately 12 metres from the roof of the Byrchall High School roof on Warrington Road. When the ambulance attended the man was unconscious and had suffered a serious head injury.

To gain access to the area where the man was the Fire Brigade attended and used cutting equipment to open a gate.

The 18-year-old was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary before being transferred to Hope Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

It is thought the man, who had been drinking, was trying to jump from one part of the school roof to another but had not made the 7-metre distance.
