Watch out at Westwood
Friday 21st October, 2005

Road users are being alerted to major changes on Wigan's roads from this weekend.

As engineers develop access to the new Westwood Park employment zone, Chapel Lane / Poolstock will be closed between Caroline Street and Corporation Street from 10pm today (Friday 21st October) until 6am Monday (24th October). Diversion routes will be sign-posted along Poolstock Lane, Warrington Road, Wallgate and Queen Street, and Caroline Street and Pottery Road for traffic leaving the town centre.

And, from Monday morning, traffic will be using new carriageways in this area. All the new routes will be fully sign-posted, but engineers are asking drivers to take particular care as they adjust to the new layout. Road users should be aware that as they approach from Poolstock, vehicles will be diverted onto the new carriageway from opposite Corporation Street. Drivers leaving Wigan will also be diverted onto a new stretch of road.

There will be no right turn into Westwood Park - access is via the gyratory Caroline/Queen Street routes.

These works, which will improve traffic access to a busy area of town, will continue through to early next summer.

Wigan Council's online roadworks bulletin at www.wiganmbc.gov.uk provides regular updates on this and other schemes.
