Appeal after Good Samaritan was assaulted
Wednesday 9th March, 2005

Officers in Wigan are trying to trace a man who was assaulted after a Good Samaritan who stopped to help was also attacked.

Police were called to the incident at 5pm on Sunday 27th February 2005 at Scholes Precinct in Scholes. A 40 year old man was driving close to the Precinct when he saw a man on the floor being punched in the head. He turned his car around and got out to help the man.

As he approached the offender the man was surrounded by five or six teenagers aged between 15 and 17. They threatened the man before hitting him in the face with a metal bar. He suffered cuts and bruising but did not require hospital treatment.

The group then targeted the man's car, which was parked nearby, leaving it with extensive damage.

Officers in Wigan are keen to trace the original victim who left the scene before police arrived and also need to speak with anyone who witnessed either attack. They are asked to contact the police at Wigan on 0161 856 7124 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
