|Family Learning Frenzy!
Centre Stage: Young Keeley from Whelley at the Pier's Learning Centre.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust is encouraging families across the borough to take part in a range of stimulating free activities and events designed to promote fun family learning, as part of the national Family Learning Week from 8th to 16th October.
Family Learning Week is a national awareness initiative organised by the Campaign for Learning. The campaign aims to strengthen communities and to create more opportunities for the family to learn together by encouraging organisations to offer special family learning events in October each year.
Research shows that parents and carers are the most important factor in helping children do well at school and participating venues hope their events will encourage families who may never have taken part in learning activities before.
"The aim of Family Learning Week, is to show that learning is fun, takes place everywhere and can be enjoyed by everyone, whatever their age or interest," says Taryn Pearson, the Trust’s Head of Lifelong Learning and Information. "I hope the events that the Trust is running over the week will support parents and carers in inspiring their children with confidence. Developing a child’s confidence can be just as important giving them the knowledge to answer the questions to their homework."
Wigan Pier, the History Shop, Haigh Hall and the borough’s library service are all organising events from this Saturday 8th October onwards:
