|Appeal after man is attacked and his car stolen - A-in-M
Officers in Ashton-in-Makerfield are appealing for information after a man was attacked and had his car stolen following a night out last week.
On Friday 19 August 2005 the 32-year-old was out with friends in Ashton-in-Makerfield. At around 2.10am he and two friends drove to Garswood Street to meet two further friends who had been out that night.
One of the two friends, a 27-year-old woman, had driven but had had a drink and the 32-year-old had gone to pick them up. When they got to Garswood Street the woman started to transfer items from her car to the victim's.
As she was doing this, a brick was thrown through the rear windscreen of the victim's blue MG ZR by a group of 5/6 men and a woman, who had been in the market stalls area.
The 32-year-old got out of the car, leaving the keys in the ignition, and confronted the group. A fight then started during which the woman was attacked and a further friend was punched around the head.
During the fight one of the victims heard a car door slam and looked up to see the car being driven away by one of the offenders. The other offenders then ran away from the area.
The car was found burnt out shortly after at 2.30am on Morden Avenue. A laptop, number of CDs, headphones and a microphone had been stolen from the MG.
Officers are appealing to anyone who saw a group hanging around the market stalls in the time before the attack, or running away from the area shortly after.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who saw the car being left and set alight. Information can be passed to officers on 0161 856 7046 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
