Woman attacked - Wigan
Wednesday 24th August, 2005

Police are appealing for information after a 31-year-old woman was attacked as she walked home from a pub in Wigan in the early hours of yesterday morning, Tuesday 23 August 2005.

The woman had been drinking at the Silverwell Public House on Darlington Street in Wigan and left, to walk home, sometime between 12.15am and 12.30am.

She walked along Darlington Street into Cambridge Street, along Harper Street and onto Chatham Street, using some cut-through alleyways along the way. As she walked along an alleyway between Gordon Street and Chatham Street she heard male voices but couldn't see anyone.

She continued to walk along the path and was confronted by a man. As she tried to pass him she was grabbed from behind by her hands and forced to the ground. The offender made lewd comments to the woman and exposed himself to her before forcing her to perform a sexual act on him. He then ran off.

The offender is described as a white man, aged between 23 and 25-years-old with golden-red hair cut in a basin style. He was wearing blue/silver tracksuit bottoms and black Pod shoes. He was also carrying a small white bag.

Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious around the Gordon Street area is asked to contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 7770 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
