8-year-old boy injured in RTC, Wigan

Traffic officers in Wigan are appealing for witnesses after an 8-year-old boy was injured in a collision in Platt Bridge yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 10 August 2005.

At approximately 1.30pm, the boy was cycling across Warrington Road from the central reservation outside Kwik Save, near to the junction of Templeton Road, when he was involved in a collision with a Mercedes HGV, which was travelling southbound.

The boy, who is from Platt Bridge, suffered abdominal injuries and was taken to the Wigan Royal Infirmary for treatment. He was later transferred to Alder Hey Childrens Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The 39-year-old driver of the HGV, who is from Wigan, was uninjured.

Anyone who may have seen the incident or who has any further information is asked to contact the Area 1 Road Policing Unit at Leigh on 0161 856 7201 or 7273. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
