|RTC - Appeal for witnesses - Ashton in Makerfield
Traffic officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a 65 year old
pedestrian died following a road traffic collision in Ashton-in-Makerfield
on Sunday 10 July 2005.
Elizabeth JEPSON DOB: 03/08/1939 of Greenfields Crescent, Ashton-in-Makerfield died at Wigan Royal Infirmary in the early hours of Monday 11 July 2005 as a result of head and abdominal injuries she suffered during the collision.
Police are particularly keen to speak to four men in their early 20s who were seen in a small silver hatchback close to the scene. It is thought that these men may have seen the motorbike before the collision happened and could have vital information that could help the investigation.
Elizabeth had been walking on the pavement along Bolton Road, near to the junction with Bryn Road South, at around 7pm when she was in collision with a Y Registered Yamaha motorcycle, driven by a 22-year-old man from Platt Bridge.
The motorcycle was travelling in a southwest direction along Bolton Road when a Vauxhall Frontera driving in the opposite direction started to turn into a garage forecourt.
It is believed the motorcyclist swerved to avoid the N Registered Frontera, driven by a 37-year-old Hindley man, and collided with Elizabeth.
The 22-year-old motorcyclist suffered a broken arm and cuts.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has any further information, should contact the Area 1 Road Policing Unit in Leigh on 0161 856 7273 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
