|Formal Identification of 17-year-old who died following RTC - Wigan
The 17-year-old girl who died following a road traffic collision in Wigan
in the early hours of Monday 11 July 2005 died has been formally identified.
At approximately 4.55am on Monday, police were called to Warrington Road in Goose Green following reports of a car on its roof.
Victoria Louise GASKELL DOB: 30/09/87 of Edward Drive, Ashton-in-Makerfield was a passenger in the rear of the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries. She was taken to the Wigan Royal Infirmary where she died last night.
The driver and two other passengers in the car sustained minor injuries.
One of these passengers went to hospital for treatment.
Victoria's family today paid the following tribute to her:
"Victoria was a lovely, lively girl with a bubbly personality who had
everything to live for. She was loved by all she met and was dedicated to
"As a member of Ashton Swimming Club Victoria was a keen swimmer. She was also an avid fan of Wigan Rugby League Club, regularly watching them at the JJB Stadium and at away fixtures."
"She was a student at Winstanley College where she was studying for her A-levels. with the intention of becoming a children's nurse."
Victoria's parents Stan and Jean added:
"We are totally devastated by the loss of Victoria and can not come to terms with what has happened. Our lives have been changed forever.
"Along with her sister, Catherine, 20, brother Christopher,22, nan and granddad Florence and Bill and grandma May, we are drawing strength from each others memories of Victoria."
A 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been
released on police bail pending further enquiries.
