17-year-old in critical condition following RTC in Wigan
Monday 11th July, 2005

Police in Wigan are appealing for information after a 17-year-old girl was seriously injured in a road traffic collision this morning, Monday 11 July 2005.

At approximately 4.55am, police were called to Warrington Road in Goose Green following reports of a car on its roof.

The 17-year-old rear seat passenger, from the Wigan area, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Wigan Royal Infirmary where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver and two other passengers in the car sustained minor injuries. One of these passengers went to hospital for treatment.

Warrington Road, the slip road at Junction 25 northbound on the M6, was closed for approximately five and a half hours while accident investigation teams carried out forensic examinations and cleared the scene.

The road has now been reopened, however police are warning of delays northbound on the M6 between Junctions 21 to 25.

A 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to contact the Area 1 Road Polcing Unit on 0161 856 7201 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
