The Robin Park Stadium, as it has been called since it's conception, can only take the name of it's sponsor so, if DW sponsors it, it will be known as the DW stadium.
The JJB sponsorship contract will be closed before the end of term, or so it seems. But some other, as yet unknown, sponsor could emerge.

D.W. Stadium just doesn't have the ring to it. Hopefully some other sponsor will come in and save us.

D.W. Stadium doesn't have a Rugby feel to it.

Why not call it central park,it might release some of the ability of the former players onto the present ones.

It's been called the JJB since the day it opened. Due to latics being a premier league club for most of the time the stadium has been there, it has become well known throughout the country as the JJB stadium. You can re-name it what you like, but in ten years time people will still call it the JJB.

St.Helens RLFC are sponsored by GPW Recruitment and, as per contract terms, they get their name on Knowsley Road Stadium for the term. But, the supporters still refer to 'Knowsley Road', not the sponsor name.

Wigan's 'Robin Park Stadium' will be named after their new sponsor DW SportsFitness in keeping with the naming rights as per contract.
Supporters can call it either Robin Park Stadium or DW Stadium, both being correct. However, if they call it the JJB Stadium, they're just clinging onto memories.

As for Wigan RLFC, well, I wonder what 'sponsor's name' will adorn Leigh Sports Village in the future?

They could even call it the mini Old Traffiord because so many Wigan athletic fans are also Manure fans, wonder who 50% of the home crowd will be supporting when the two meet soon. Now wait for the response.....

I think you'll find you haven't really got a clue as to what's what.

The 'stadium' was built as the Robin Park Stadium, not the Robin Park 'Arena'.
It was built on land owned, and developed, by the council.
The whole project was called the 'Robin Park Development' and was funded by money from the government's 'City Challenge Fund'.

As it is, there's something called 'naming rights' which has been added to sponsorship 'contracts'. This 'naming rights' allows whoever holds the 'sponsorship contract' to have the home ground named after them. ie: JJB holds the sponsors contract, so the ground gets known as JJB Stadium. BUT, only as long as the sponsors contract lasts.

So, the name of a stadium could change every ten years. Records cannot be kept on those terms.
So, OFFICIALLY, for the sake of RECORD, the sports ground, built on the Robin Park development and owned by the council, is Robin Park Stadium.
That's what it's registered as.

Whatever sponsor appears on the sponsors contract in future remains to be seen. Who knows, one day the ground might be known as ...... 'The Tampax Stadium, Wigan'!

(but really, it's in Pemberton, not Wigan)

But aren't Newtown and Norley Hall between Pemberton and the JJB? Surely it's closer to Springfield?
