Former Wigan star Lee McCulloch is certain he is leaving a side who are definitely on the up. McCulloch - who completed a 2.25million switch to Rangers this week - firmly believes the Latics squad is strong enough to avoid relegation and says the club are 'buzzing'.

McCulloch told the Evening Post: "I'm glad to have left Wigan on good terms with Chris because I think he will be brilliant for the club.

"The couple of weeks of pre-season training I have done have been among the best of my career, and the boys in the squad are buzzing.

"With the signings who have come in, Wigan will be all right this season - actually they'll be more than all right.

"I think they can finish in mid-table, if not a little bit higher, because the standard of the squad is getting better all the time."

I'm going to miss singing 'Super Lee' and I had hoped he was going to stay with us, but I wish him all the best at Rangers & for Scotland .

Made his SPL debut to-day & played well, set up two of the three goals scored. Cool
