Wigan Athletic have signed West Bromwich Albion and Wales playmaker Jason Koumas on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee thought to be around 5 million.

Koumas, 27, was brilliant for the Baggies last season as they reached the Championship play-off final and widely expected to move on following the defeat to Derby County.

"Jason is a touch of class and I am convinced he will add a new dimension to the team," new Latics manager Chris Hutchings told the club's official website.

"There were a number of other Premiership clubs interested in him, which makes me even more delighted he's chosen to join us.

"He has tremendous ability, fantastic vision, and I sincerely hope he continues where he left off in the Premiership because his skills deserve to be seen at the highest level."

Koumas won the Championship player of the season award in the last campaign and was WBA's most dangerous player in the play-off final at Wembley.

Hutchings, formerly assistant manager at the JJB Stadium, has now taken his list of summer acquisitions to six following the departure of Paul Jewell following final-day survival at Bramall Lane last season.

Titus Bramble, Antoine Sibierski, Mario Melchiot, Andreas Granqvist and Carlo Nash have all joined the playing ranks, yet there could be more new arrivals on the horizon.

"We've pushed the boat out to get them, but now we turn our attention to other targets," Hutchings added.

"We've done well in the transfer market so far, but there's still room to improve the squad further."

Scored two on Saturday against Leeds, a few in the Premiership from his midfield berth will be just the job.

The season edges nearer & nearer.

Toffees away on Saturday with @Boro on the following Wednesday Cool
