Strange that a few miles further on the water changes to a rusty orange colour.

This riverside view of Strasbourg always reminds me of Sandersons Croft at Butts Bridge in Leigh. Laughing

Sandersons Croft is nothing like that Peter, though it does have a canal wharf, it was a jokey comment that I made to a person who lived in Leigh whilst we were walking along the riverside streets of Strasbourg a few years ago.

Further up Manchester Road the council houses on Warwick Drive also back onto the canal, though I suppose they will have been privately bought now as they were popular houses to live with the view at the rear.

Wasn't the Waterside Inn at one time the grain merchants, or am I mistaking it for another building.

That's not the Bridgewater Canal, it's the Leeds Liverpool. And this shouldn't be on Photos of Wigan!

Firstly, Peter, the Bridgewater Canal starts at the east side of St.Helens Road bridge. Your photographs are of the west side of St.Helens Road bridge, which is the Leeds / Liverpool Canal, not the Bridgewater.

Secondly, although Leigh is in Wigan council area (borough), it's not in Wigan. That's why it's called Leigh!

Good shots, I like photos of the cut when still like these.
Not been on here for ages, good to see things haven't changed much.

You wouldn't call a horse a donkey. You wouldn't say the East Lancs Road is the M6 Motorway.
You wouldn't photograph Wallgate Station and say it was the North Western. Asda isn't B&Q, although it's next door.
Would you say a Wigan rugby shirt was white with a red 'V' on the front?

So, why photograph the Leeds Liverpool Canal and say it's the Bridgewater?

It's always better to be correct. I makes you look less simple! Very Happy

Good shots Peter. You just got the last of the nice autumn colours there. Winter is definitely here now.
