I was on my way back from Pennington Flash a few days ago when ,as I was pushing my bike through a canal gate near Scotsman Flash,
I noticed this creature run into the grass.
I decided to hang about on the off chance that it may reappear and sure enough after about 5 minutes it did and I had my camera at the ready.

Is it a stoat or a weasel ?

On the face of it Bennie, i would say it was a Stoat. They seem to be more and more common, especially through Dean Wood, where i see them.

We 've seen them on the canal near Dean Lock surgeon and we've watched them jump in the canal and swim to the other side. but they seem a wee bit smaller than this one so I was thinking one must be stoat and one weasel.
I hope this makes sense.

Seriously the short tail without a slightly bushy black tip and its size make it a Weasel

I did think the ones at Dean Lock were stoats Tusker and this one was that bit different slightly bigger so I'd plump for weasel too.

You is joking...

.. there is thousands of them! They are like magpies in Westwood! Very Happy

Oh look a Weasel!

Yeah yeah... another one...(gee). But, it is good to see, they are breeding.. and hopefully not as stressed as they were in the 1960-80's when eeediots walked with .22 air rifles.

BTW... that is a good piccie Bennie. Very Happy In fact the more I look... it is a brilliant piccie Bennie! Very Happy
