News release 8 July 2008

Businesses warned on fly posting

Commenting on Wigan councils campaign to prosecute fly-posters, Andrew Keogh said:

“Businesses seeking a bit of free advertising need to be aware of the severe criminal penalties that can flow from fly posting. Businesses can be fined up to £2,500 per poster, with extra penalties of £100 for each day the offending poster is displayed. Businesses also face being named and shamed and in these environmentally aware times, all businesses need to avoid this.” END

--Notes—

Andrew Keogh is a partner with Keogh Solicitors a niche firm dealing with criminal and regulatory defence.

Looks like another solicitor in the council's pocket. (or, should I have said, if not in it now, soon to be).

Hardly - cynicsm is alive and well on this forum! We provide criminal defence services, with a growing portfolio of representation for people prosecuted under the various provisions available to local authorities. LA's have become much more aggressive in recent years and Wigan is simply catching up on this. Part of our service is informing business of the various rules and regulations that can affect them. Many people genuinely believe that putting up a few posters is OK, but are soon shocked when taken to court.

regards

So you only specialise in criminal defense? For example assault, GBH, etc.? Do you accept legal aid?

Hi, yes we undertake all aspects of criminal defence work. We do work under legal aid for eligible clients. Give me a call if we can help.

News release 9 July 2008

Businesses warned on posting adverts. on Wiganworld.

“Businesses seeking a bit of free advertising need to be aware of the severe penalties that can arise from posting adverts on Brian's site without first asking nicely. Businesses can expect one visit per post from Tonker or b8mex or both (providing that Brian is willing to pay, of course), with extra penalties of further visits for each offending advert posted. Businesses also face being named and shamed on Wiganworld and, in these environmentally aware times, all businesses need to avoid this, even solicitors won't be allowed to get away with it” END

As if fly tipping isn't bad enough, now they're posting them. Anyway, they get their wages at the end of the week, they shouldn't be asking for tips. That's being greedy that is!
