Thanks Dave that's interesting, also listed in the 1869 directory is an Oliver Ormrod beer retailer DEANSDALE, don't know if this could be the same place, but it looks like there was certainly an Inn of some sort for a period of time on Deansgate.

Also on the 1861 census for William Prescott he doesn't say he's a publican he states he's a beer seller so that would fit with the some pubs could only sell beer thing.
