Maureen I have found a little information on Stonecross. It was indeed a special school but special in the way that it was a country mansion in its day and by all accounts a school well worth going to.

If you type into Google..stonecross school Ulverston... you will see pictures of it in its hey-day and as a school. It looks fantastic. There is even a members forum for ex pupils.
