Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

Hello again, Laura

I just received the package of documents from Pat regarding my Mom and her siblings. Most interesting read as it included the paperwork for three of the children who were placed in Moorfields in Preston as well as the youngest brother who was placed at Greenfield's in Billinge. I was not expecting that.

In my family's case, the children were voluntarily placed by my Grandfather and the agency that he went through was the Liverpool Catholic Children's Protection Society, which in 1928 was located at 1a, Trueman Street, Dale Street, Liverpool.

The Application is an active document in that it also included Discharge Information regarding when the children were returned to their father in 1933, once he had secured a suitable home for them. In the interim, he was earning 3 Pounds a month as a Master Plumber and was contributing 25 Shillings a month towards the upkeep of the children. There were also copies of birth certificates, Baptismal Certificates and letters of reference and communication between a Sister M. Theresa at Greenfields and the Society.

Perhaps it might be helpful for you to research the above noted protection society to see if they might have surviving archives somewhere.

I now have to track down the Domestic Plumber's Society of Great Britain and Ireland to see if their Union Records might survive.

Best regards,

David
