Brian; RE The Funk Brothers.
Like your good self I also don't profess to know everything and have had to extensively research the fact.
Far from relying on the net I decided to ask the question on the definitive soul site...Soul Source. Big Mistake!!!

Everything went smoothly at first with a couple of members giving me a plausible answer of 4 members still living.
Then the usual pedantic anoraks came on, which in the main is always welcomed because of their vast array of knowledge.
But as is also usual with that site, there's always someone,
who far from just giving an answer, will resort to personal insults. This time it was for saying there were only 13 members.
I didn't, I was quite precise and asked How many of the 'original' 13 members were still alive?
Those familiar with the Funk Brothers will know, they had various members through the years to a total of around maybe 50 or so.
In the end I had to lock the thread before it got out of hand.
Soul Source...great site for gleening information but full of people so far up their own arse they can see their own tonsils!


Anyway, rant over.

For those who haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend 'Standing In The Shadows Of Motown'.
A brilliant documentary recounting the story of The Funk Brothers, the uncredited and largely unheralded studio musicians who performed on Motown Records from 1959 to 1972.
