First post on WW, but I went to the Garrick in the early 1970,s and saw Jerry Lee Lewis,Freddy Starr,Bob Monkhouse and a lot of top rate british and american artists.
At that time as Mark said Roy had the night off on tuesday and Johnny Goon Tweed took over and he was funny, but the real star was Roy Hastings every night because they played all week.
I thought that both he and John Martin at the Riverside were good to listen to ,but they were different clubs and I thought the Garrick was better and Roy was the best compere/singer I have seen.
People of our age who were lucky enough to go to Blightys,Copperfields,Talk of the North, and the numerous nightclubs or entertainment clubs would definitely have got better value than you would get today.
