Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

Dlanor, the black 'dash-dot' line on that map is showing the boundary between 'local authority areas', not places.
There is a distinct difference between a 'place', which has a name, and a 'local authority' or 'council' area.
Some 'places' ie: Ashton in Makerfield, Appley Bridge, Billinge, to name but three, are split between councils, but there is no change to the names of the actual places.

Did you not know that?

A large part of Ashton in Makerfield is in St.Helens, but it hasn't stopped being Ashton in Makerfield. Part of Billinge is in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, most of it is in St.Helens, but it's still Billinge.
Haydock Park Golf Club is in Haydock, but it's in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan for local government purposes.
Here's another one, the three houses built opposite the racecourse entrance, called Chelwood Park, are in Haydock, even though they've got an Ashton telephone code, a Wigan postal address and the people who live there know they are in Haydock, but say it's Ashton, because 'We can see Ashton from the front of the house'.

Folk are just, generally, daft. The closer to Wigan, the worse they get!

PS. ... Your feet aren't as clear as you thought. Your general knowledge is quite murky too!
