The story I have (which is true) probably points to the time of Rector Hall.

About 12 months before he died, he assaulted a teenager so badly that the victim required medical attention, and was confined to bed for a week. The attending physician was Dr. McCurdy, who tried to persuade the parents to report him to the Police...

Apart from myself, there are others that can corroborate this. Surprising, considering how well liked he was.
