On examination of the evidence available, I find that you were correct in the first instance, Dave. The signage is, indeed, sited on the Leigh side of the boundary in question and is, therefore, on Wigan Road.

However, the junction still isn't Bickershaw Lane junction, and Leigh still doesn't exist, having been abolished on passing of the Local Government Act 1972 which came into force in April, 1974.

So don't be thinking you're dead clever for winning that one!
