I believe they were first made for the Weavers in the cotton mills as they were so warm to wear and they had to stand at the loom on cold floors, I also have a very tiny pair with all the brass studs around and the irons on , a lot of people here have never sen them before and always causes conversation they were made in the market, the stall was run for the blind
