My grandad worked at the Iron works during WWII, I guess it was a necessary industry, as an aside he was in the St John Ambulance too, there are a couple of books, Images of Wigan or somesuch like in which there are photos of him as he sent copies into the WEP, years ago....I guess many folk did volunteering services alongside the industry they had to work in. After my mum was born in '51 he then became a publican in places like the Bridgewater and Black Diamond.....I will see if I can find some of his pictuers from work and scan them
