Just here perusing the site and a couple of memories came back.
Whenever I was sent to the shop as a young lad, I was allways told to ask if they had any gas shillings with my change. This stuck with me till decimalisation.
At the butchers Savoury Ducks, were pronounced Slavoury Ducks.
One Christmas I carried home the groceries in a box almost bigger than me, with Dr. Whites emblazened on the front.
