I can remember moving to Norley in the sixties from Marsh Green I would be seven or eight and seeing people on a Sunday morning with their hair entwined in the hawthorn bushes that lined Norley Hall Avenue after they'd been on the Cornbrooks ale in the west ward.
At that time my dad used to drink in the Norley pub but go in the west on a Sunday afternoon, you can guarantee mam and dad weren't on speaking terms on monday.

How does it go "tell yer dad his tea's on table"

When I got a bit older we used to hide in the hawthorns with a brick and a few coins and when the drunks came out of the west we would drop the coins on the brick, have you ever seen a drunken man crawling on the floor looking for his money. we hadn't a lot of money but we had lots of fun.
