Now, it's many years since I heard that phrase and I was thought , given the context in which it was used, it had a positive meaning. Similar to 'sitting pretty' etc.

So I had me a little google.

"Dickie's Meadow", a well-known Northern expression, possibly refers to Sandals Meadow where the battle of Wakefield took place and where Richard met his end. The common view held that Richard was ill-advised to fight here. The expression is usually used to warn against risky action. ("If you do that you'll end up in Dickie's Meadow".) It is a moot point how early the expression arose, and whether through folk memory or local history

Battle Of Wakefield

I'd know nowt bowt google, me.

I've never known it to have a positive connotation, Dostaf.

My misinterpretation.

First and maybe only time I'd heard it was from a teacher at school. I think he was talking about landing jobs.

Seat, as in something to sit on, not manufacturer.

I knew it wouldn't take long to lower the tone.

I don't know. I start a lovely new informatve thread about the wars of the roses, then find myself getting a Molly Morgan ear-worm in me head.

I thought Mache was as mad as a box of frogs after the dicky ticqueur mention.

Replied: 15th Apr 2013 at 15:59

Does mad as a box of frogs mean 'mad'- angry?

Hopping mad, perhaps?

I always thought it meant mad as in barking.

Google time.

Lots make similar error with mad as a wasp in a tin can.
