Wigan wingers over the years
I've had the privilege of seeing a lot from Billy B through to today's men.
But I must admit I'd love to see Tom Johnstone in a warriors jersey.
He's got the lot. So he'll probably end up in Oz

Seconded, I spy, he’s a class act. He’ll definitely be on the NRL radar

I disagree gentlemen. I have seen scores of better wingers. Is he in the current England squad? Good luck to him if the NRL clubs do come knocking.
Replied: 10th Sep 2018 at 01:12
If he's not in the England squad he soon will be. It's all about opinions and personal choice and I agree with broady that there are some quality wingers around.
What do I know anyway - I was a big fan of Ray Mordt.
Replied: 10th Sep 2018 at 13:02
Ray Mordt was never fully match fit in his Wigan days - I am not sure it was particularly wise to sign him in the first place but he came in at the same time we signed the Springbok captain who played in the second row. I can't remember his name - can anyone help?

That Green Vigo could move...... never seen anyone tumble down a flight of stairs as quick as he did one night in Sloopies.

Mark Preston was quick.

David Stephenson wasn’t born when David Stephens played at Wigan!
He came from Rugby Union and was a teacher in Wigan👍

Hi Fordie. Dave Stephens signed for Wigan at the beginning of the 65-66 season from Castleford RU. In his first game he played on the wing instead of Billy B in the old Ward Cup in '65! He was a talented player, but not in the same class as Billy, Trevor Lake or Mick Sullivan!
Replied: 11th Sep 2018 at 12:45
David signed from Wakefield RU,and I think he lived in Castleford.
I met him quite a few times,he was a nice fellow.
Replied: 11th Sep 2018 at 13:22
If it’s the same one. Heritage number 636.Debut 18th August 1965.signed from Whitehaven.
Replied: 11th Sep 2018 at 13:32
He probably won't want to remember but he played at centre to BB in that 1966 Wembley final
Replied: 11th Sep 2018 at 14:26
It would be nice to play in a winning final I-spy. But I think anyone would take playing at Wembley in a final.
Replied: 11th Sep 2018 at 15:30
I know he played centre....but I remember him scoring a fantastic long distance try on the wing...David Stephens that is...very classy but must have got injured or homesick

Gary Henley-Smith? Wasn’t he a kiwi sprinter or summat who tried his hand at RL?

It's a pity the telegram boy got a puncture otherwise he could have been the best ever Wigan winger.
winger

He could catch pigeons, a great player.
Replied: 12th Sep 2018 at 15:47
I agree a really great player but can't replace the respect and admiration I have for William John Boston

Frank Carlton deserves a mention. He had class and speed.
Replied: 13th Sep 2018 at 18:41
And helped a lot at Wigan by the great Alan Davies.
Replied: 13th Sep 2018 at 20:17
Agreed, Broady. I know this is about wingers but centres played a large part in their development. Alan Davies, for me, was the finest centre I've ever seen. He was largely responsible for getting Frank Carlton picked for the 62 tour - although Carlton was a great winger anyway! I remember Davies giving Len Killeen a good hiding in the RL Cup 2nd round against Saints 1965!
Replied: 14th Sep 2018 at 16:10
He scored plenty tries himself as well
Replied: 14th Sep 2018 at 16:44
Great to see him back.
Replied: 15th Sep 2018 at 11:42
Wingers just put the ball down , trys created by forwards and halves. Billy B for me .
Replied: 17th Sep 2018 at 05:02
We've not got that many try making forwards or half backs in Super League but we do have wingers capable of scoring spectacular tries out of nothing.
Playing with Eric Ashton as his centre Billy B got handed a few on a plate all right
Replied: 17th Sep 2018 at 17:07
Pat Richards has earned a mention
