Wigan wingers over the years

Started by: i-spy (15234)

I've had the privilege of seeing a lot from Billy B through to today's men.
But I must admit I'd love to see Tom Johnstone in a warriors jersey.
He's got the lot. So he'll probably end up in Oz

Seconded, I spy, he’s a class act. He’ll definitely be on the NRL radar

I disagree gentlemen. I have seen scores of better wingers. Is he in the current England squad? Good luck to him if the NRL clubs do come knocking.

If he's not in the England squad he soon will be. It's all about opinions and personal choice and I agree with broady that there are some quality wingers around.
What do I know anyway - I was a big fan of Ray Mordt.

Ray Mordt was never fully match fit in his Wigan days - I am not sure it was particularly wise to sign him in the first place but he came in at the same time we signed the Springbok captain who played in the second row. I can't remember his name - can anyone help?

Hi Fordie. Dave Stephens signed for Wigan at the beginning of the 65-66 season from Castleford RU. In his first game he played on the wing instead of Billy B in the old Ward Cup in '65! He was a talented player, but not in the same class as Billy, Trevor Lake or Mick Sullivan!

David signed from Wakefield RU,and I think he lived in Castleford.
I met him quite a few times,he was a nice fellow.

It would be nice to play in a winning final I-spy. But I think anyone would take playing at Wembley in a final.

And helped a lot at Wigan by the great Alan Davies.

Replied: 13th Sep 2018 at 20:17

Agreed, Broady. I know this is about wingers but centres played a large part in their development. Alan Davies, for me, was the finest centre I've ever seen. He was largely responsible for getting Frank Carlton picked for the 62 tour - although Carlton was a great winger anyway! I remember Davies giving Len Killeen a good hiding in the RL Cup 2nd round against Saints 1965!

Wingers just put the ball down , trys created by forwards and halves. Billy B for me .

Replied: 17th Sep 2018 at 05:02

We've not got that many try making forwards or half backs in Super League but we do have wingers capable of scoring spectacular tries out of nothing.
Playing with Eric Ashton as his centre Billy B got handed a few on a plate all right
